Insurgents attack a school in western Uganda, killing 42 people.

Police and local authorities in western Uganda said on Saturday that a suspected rebel attack on a secondary school left at least 42 people dead and eight more in serious condition. The kidnapping of 15 children was also confirmed by a regional government official. The bloodshed that occurred on Friday night in the town of Mpondwe, which is close to the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a militia associated with the Islamic State organization.The Ugandan army declared that it was hunting down the extremists and would take revenge. According to a spokesperson, UN Secretary-General António Guterres denounced the incident and demanded that those responsible be brought to justice. Josep Borrell, a spokesperson of the EU for international affairs, reiterated his remarks and called the incident "appalling." "This terrorist violence targeting children is beyond comprehension," Mr. Borrell wrote in a tweet. The two East African nations' border has long been the target of assaults by the ADF and other Congolese rebels. According to the ADF, it is fighting for the rights of Muslims in Uganda who are being progressively marginalised by the state and law enforcement. The group's objective is to topple the Kampala administration. However, the majority of their casualties in attacks are civilians. In 1998, terrorists attacked a university in a border region, killing 80 students in what was the group's deadliest strike to date.
