Protesters stormed major streets in Sagamu, Ogun State, yesterday to express their outrage and displeasure at the hardship caused by the scarcity of naira notes. They used bonfires to block the Ijebu-Ode/Sagamu Interchange section of the Lagos-Sagamu-Benin Expressway, causing traffic gridlock and leaving hundreds of travellers stranded for hours. The mob, mostly made up of youths, also set fire to two banks and the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), as well as equipment such as computers, TV sets, furniture, and an industrial generator. They also vandalised the Sagamu LGA Secretariat office. Other banks were also attacked, including Keystone Bank and Union Bank branches in the Ijoku area.
