Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, has stated that he will begin advocating for his favourite presidential candidate in January 2023. Wike, a PDP member, has publicly said that he does not support Atiku Abubakar as the party's nominee for president. He is adamant that President Buhari, a Northerner, cannot be succeeded by another Northerner in 2023. At the opening of a flyover in Obi-Akpor LGA on Thursday, Governor Wike said he would start organising people "from state to state" in support of his chosen candidate in January.
