After over 15 months in DSS detention, Kanu is reportedly suffering from an intestinal disorder.

Ejiofor stated that the DSS and the Federal Government should be held accountable if anything untoward occurs to the IPOB leader. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has apparently been given a gastrointestinal disease diagnosis. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu attorney, claims that the continual heartburn Kanu had caused him to acquire an intestinal issue. The Department of State Services has been caring for the IPOB leader since his arrest in June 2021. He is currently on trial for alleged treason charges. Ejiofor claimed that despite Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja ordering that the IPOB leader receives serious medical care, the DSS has refused to let Kanu take care of his health.
