Appeal Court ruling in favour of Delta Speaker as PDP governship Candidate

Justice Ige ruled that there had been a miscarriage of justice in Justice Taiwo decision to uphold certificate forgery against the Speaker. Francis Oboriowori, the speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, has been re nominated by the People Democratic Party to run for governor in the 2023 election. In a decision issued on Monday, August 29 2022 the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal reinstated the speaker whose nomination had been overturned by a Federal High Court in July due to certificate fraud and perjury. Justice Peter Ige emphasized that the allegations against Oboriowori were criminal in nature and had to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt when delivering the court ruling. Additionally, Justice Ige stated that the issue of certificate fraud and the faking of documents allegations against the speaker required witnesses from those who issued the certificates and the alleged fake documents. As a result the judge upheld the victory of the Speaker at the May 25 2022, primary election in which he polled 590 votes to defeat Edevbie who polled only 113 votes to come second. According to the judge the criminal allegations were not established as required by law.
