Federal High Court reject FG request to extradite DCP Abba Kyari to US

A federal high court in Abuja has rejected a request by the federal government to extradite suspended deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Abba Kyari to the United States to face criminal charges. On Monday August 29 Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo ruled that the extradition request submitted by the Attorney General of the Federation AGF on behalf of the Federal Government was without merit and subject to rejection. Ekwo added that since Abba Kyari was already on trial in Nigeria for the accusations made against him in America, the Federal Government had no justification for requesting his extradition. The Extradition Act he continued, forbids the surrender of a defendant who is currently facing criminal charges in a local court.
