Gov. Wike makes fun of Atiku over Obasanjo's support for Peter Obi, saying that "something is fundamentally wrong."
Before the 2023 General Election, Governor Nyesom Wike made fun of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, over former President Olusegun Obasanjo's support for Peter Obi of the Labour Party. Between 1999 and 2007, Atiku served as vice president during the Obasanjo presidency. However, Peter Obi was backed by Obasanjo as his favourite candidate for the 2023 Presidential election in his New Year's Day address on Sunday, January 1. Governor Wike made the following remarks on January 2 at the start of a road development project in the state: "I prayed that Obasanjo would remain silent. I was moved when I read the letter last night. If your principal is unable to endorse you, something is seriously wrong. You went to see your principle, after all, to ask him to recommend you. It took a while for your principal to finally write a letter to all Nigerians in which he declared, "Look, I am not too comfortable [with Atiku]." Although I don't care about other people, Obasanjo worked with you and is aware of his motivations.
