ASUU reveals reasons why the Tuesday meeting with FG could not end the strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has put forth explanations for why its meeting with the Federal Government committee headed by Prof. Nimi Briggs on August 16 ended in impasse. The union claimed that the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), which was allegedly prepared by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, was the cause of the impasse. The union on Thursday expressed outrage that the award, presented by the Nimi Briggs-led team, came in a manner of take it or leave it, in the typical sheet of paper. The press release was signed by the unions president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke. The ASUU president claimed that the award salary violated the Wages Boards and Industrial Councils collective bargaining principles.
