The DSS drops its lawsuit against former terrorist mediator Tukur Mamu
On November 24, the Department of State Services (DSS) abandoned a lawsuit it had filed in Federal High Court Abuja to keep former terrorists negotiator Tukur Mamu detained for an additional 60 days following his detention. A.M. Danlami, the DSS attorney, informed Justice Nkeonye Maha of their decision not long after the case was set for hearing. On the cause list for the day, the lawsuit between SSS and Tukur Mamu with the file number FHC/ABJ/CS/1619/2022, was listed for further action. The case has been overtaken by events, according to Danlami, who requested to abandon the case upon the restart of the hearing. My Lord, today is the hearing on this case. However, current events have surpassed the issue. We want to drop the lawsuit, he declared. After the application, Justice Maha dismissed the suit. Application of the learner counsel succeeds. The application is hereby struck out having been withdrawn, she ruled. Recall that the security agency, through its lawyer, Ahmed Magaji, had, on Sept. 13, moved a motion ex parte, which sought an order of the court to detain Mamu for 60 more days in the first instance, pending the conclusion of its investigation. The motion marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1617/2022, was dated and filed on Sept. 12. It urged the court to grant its reliefs to enable it to conclude its investigation on Mamu, who had been leading the negotiation with terrorists for the release of the Abuja Kaduna train passengers kidnapped in March.
