Reps vote to pass the bill creating the Almajiri Education Commission.
The House of Representatives has adopted a bill that aims to create a National Commission for Almajiri Education and Out of School Children. A bill titled A Bill for an Act to Establish National Commission for Almajiri Education and Out of School Children to Provide for a Multimodal System of Education to tackle the Menace of Illiteracy, Develop Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Programmes, Prevent Youth Poverty, Delinquency and Destitution in Nigeria and for Related Matters was sponsored by Shehu Kakale, a lawmaker from Sokoto State, along with 18 other lawmakers. Hours after former president Olusegun Obasanjo issued a warning that Nigeria more than 20 million unenrolled youngsters, who make up about 10% of world statistics, could become terrorists, the law passed its second reading.
