Court orders INEC to resume CVR up to 90 days before the election in 2023.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been directed to immediately begin the continuous voter registration (CVR) 90 days before the 2023 general elections by Justice Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court, Abuja. The court issued the directive while rendering its decision in a lawsuit brought by Anajat Salmat and three other individuals against INEC. According to the plaintiffs, INEC cannot halt the CVR in violation of the stated constitutional provisions. The judge ordered INEC to make sure that eligible Nigerians do not lose the chance to have a voter card for the upcoming election in a verdict handed down today, November 22. The judge stated that it was the electoral umpire constitutional duty to establish proper provisions for the exercise in accordance with Nigerian laws.
