LASTMA declares immediate shutdown of Third Mainland Bridge
On Sunday, October 23, 2022, at 1 pm, the Third Mainland Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic and will undergo a traffic diversion, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). The road restriction would allow the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency to collect the garbage truck that plunged into the lagoon on Tuesday. The agency noted in a statement on Friday, October 21, that only drivers traveling from Lagos Island to link to the mainland through Iyana Oworonshoki will be impacted by the road closure and traffic diversion. Drivers heading to Lagos Island from the mainland will not be impacted. It is recommended that drivers traveling from Victoria Island, Ikoyi, or Lagos Island utilize the Carter Bridge to connect to Ijora Olopa (near LAWMA Headquarters) to Eko Bridge.
