The government registration of a new trade union for academic employees within the university system, according to ASUU President Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, is unimportant and does not constitute a danger to the union continued existence. The Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA), a splinter group of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, received a registration certificate from the federal government earlier today (ASUU). In response to the situation, Osodeke told reporters that the breakaway union registration was unlawful. That has no bearing on us at all. We are a disciplined, goal oriented union that is aware of what it is doing and what it is pursuing. Allow them to sign up as many unions as possible.
