The FG cautions ASUU from defying the court decision, saying that the union is dishonest and misleading its members and the wider public.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has received a warning from the federal government through Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, against defying the court judgment regarding its eight month strike. The National Industrial Court Justice Polycarp Hamman ordered the varsity professors to cease their strike and return to the classroom in September, but ASUU contested the decision. In an effort to compel the varsity lecturers to resume their jobs, the Federal Government then gave the Vice Chancellors and Pro Chancellors of universities instructions to reopen the colleges and universities. The FG rescinded the order a few days later. Ngige accused the ASUU leadership of misleading and misinforming its members in a statement released on Sunday, October 2 by Olajide Oshundun, the Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations for the Labour ministry.
