In Kogi, four family members perish after consuming "amala."

The deaths of four family members who apparently consumed the Amala meal made from cassava flour have been confirmed. According to sources who spoke to Punch, the tragedy took place in Mopa Town, Mopa Muro Local Government Area, Kogi State, and the victims passed away quickly one after the other between Friday, September 30, and Sunday, October 2. After eating dinner, Pa. Motilewa, the family patriarch, his two children, and a female who is allegedly related all passed away. The wife of Motilewa miraculously lived. A teacher in the town with a National Certificate of Education, Motun was one of the deceased daughters. It was learned that the family used the leftover cassava flour from which they had previously cooked and consumed Fufu to make the Amala meal.
