Police spokesperson claims his statement was miscontrued about Police officers slapping civillians .

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force, has responded to the controversy that followed his remark regarding police slapping citizens. Adejobi tweeted, Even if a policeman on duty slaps a civilian, the civilian has no right to retaliate, in response to a viral video of two men grappling with an armed officer. The act of beating an officer while he is in uniform is very disrespectful to Nigeria. It is illegal to disrespect our country as stated in our criminal laws, not the police officer. Therefore, it was not the policeman actions that caused it, but rather the civilians response, who attacked the police.
