Another method of POS operator fraud revealed by Delta Police PRO
DSP Bright Edafe, the public relations officer for the Delta Police, has discovered yet another scheme used by thieves to con POS operators. For POS operators, fraudsters remove the actual amount they want to withdraw and enter a much smaller amount before they enter their pins, according to a Twitter thread started by Edafe. It is foolish of the POS staff to simply take the receipt without scrutinizing it. When the POS operator inputs the amount and hands the device to them to enter their pin, for instance, they say they want to withdraw $100,000. However, instead of entering their number, they go back and erase two zeros, which reduces the amount to $1,000. Obtain the money, print the receipt, and depart.
