Queen Elizabeth II has passed away, according to Buckingham Palace.

At the age of 96, Queen Elizabeth II passed away. In a statement, Buckingham Palace stated The Queen passed away peacefully this afternoon at Balmoral. The King and the Queen Consort will spend this evening and tomorrow in Balmoral before departing for London. The announcement follows The Queen historic Platinum Jubilee celebration in June of this year, which marked the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne and made her the first monarch to do so. Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward are the Queen four surviving children. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Following the departure of the previous prime minister on Tuesday, September 6, Her Majesty requested that Liz Truss form a new government.
