Foreign airlines operating in the nation have been threatened with sanctions by the Federal Government for refusing to take naira as payment for tickets. On September 7 after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, the minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika, revealed this to the media. The Minister stated that complaints regarding some foreign airlines operating in Nigeria selling their tickets in dollars, a practice that is illegal under current local legislation, have been made to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. He claimed that any of these airlines found breaking the law will be dealt with by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. Additionally, Sirika warned them from posting on social media .
